The Cascade Knuckle Head passive ribbon microphone combines the acoustic components of their popular Fat Head ribbon mic with a shock-mounted headbasket designed to resemble early broadcast microphones. The Cascade Knuckle Head microphone's ribbon motor is constructed with a 2.2-micron corrugated aluminum ribbon measuring 5mm x 45mm, surrounded by Neodymium magnets. The ribbon is mounted symmetrically between the magnets, so you get the same voicing from either side.
This design makes it possible to record two vocalists together, to mic a guitar cabinet or use as drum overheads, capturing the room sound as well.
The ribbon motor and headbasket are suspended within a 6-inch diameter metal hoop by eight springs. The output transformer is located within the cylindrical shaft below the shockmount hoop.
The Knuckle Head 97-C is individually hand-finished in distressed antique copper. This way, the Knuckle Head you buy has it's own unique character that is one-of-a-kind, further strengthening value as time marches on.
