Description

Equipped with 88 weighted-action keys for a premium feel, the versatile, intuitive JUNO-DS88 puts you in creative command, making it easy to produce exceptional music everywhere you play.

Weighted Keys for an Authentic Piano Feel
The JUNO-DS88 features 88 weighted-action keys, a first in the long history of the JUNO series. Roland’s Ivory Feel-G Keyboard with progressive hammer action is an ideal complement to the expressive new piano sounds, providing high-end touch and playability while still keeping the instrument light and mobile. This makes the JUNO-DS88 an obvious choice for pro players, as well as piano students looking for a portable, versatile instrument to learn on.

Top-Quality Pianos, Organs, and More
Acoustic pianos, electric pianos, and organs are bread and butter for most performing keyboardists. In the JUNO-DS88, the pianos have been newly enhanced with improved sound and response, and there are even more organs to choose from. In addition to this new DS Tone Bank, the instrument includes the entire 1000-plus sound set from the previous-generation JUNO-Di, and patches from that keyboard are fully compatible with the JUNO-DS88.

Phrase Pads for Triggering Songs and Samples
With the JUNO-DS88’s eight Phrase Pads, you can supplement your keyboard performances with samples or music files stored on USB memory. Just load up the pads with whatever you like—one-shot samples, vocals, sound effects, loops, or complete music tracks—and trigger them with a quick touch when needed.

Mic Input with Vocoder and Auto Pitch
If you’re a solo performer or singer/songwriter, you’ll love the JUNO-DS88’s mic input, which lets you get great vocal sounds without having to carry around extra gear. There’s a dedicated vocal reverb, plus Auto Pitch for singing with the “stepped” electronic vocal effect popular in today’s music. The built-in vocoder is big fun too, allowing you to sing into a mic and control the tone and pitch via sounds played on the keyboard.

Eight-Track Pattern Sequencer
When you have an idea for a song or beat, you can easily capture and develop it with the onboard pattern sequencer. The intuitive, non-stop operation won’t interrupt your creative flow, letting you build up full arrangements with multiple sounds in no time. The sequencer is also perfect for enhancing live performances with pre-made backing music and on-the-fly looping.

Music Production Partner
The JUNO-DS88 is not only great on stage—it works great for computer music production as well. The integrated USB interface provides a solid front end for a mobile or studio recording setup, allowing you to record MIDI and audio data, including sounds from the mic input. There’s even a dedicated DAW Control mode for controlling your music software from the JUNO-DS88’s front panel.

Wave Expansion Slot for Adding New Sounds
To complement its impressive onboard sound set, the JUNO-DS88 supports internal waveform expansion via USB for unlimited tonal range. Over 1000 EXP sounds are available for free download at Roland’s Axial website, including top-quality acoustic piano collections, world instruments, go-to studio standards, percussion, loops, and more. If don’t find what you need there, it’s even possible to load in WAV files from your personal library and play them from the keyboard! Out of the box, the JUNO-DS88 comes with the versatile EXP-06 Studio Collection preloaded in the wave expansion slot.

  • Gig-ready instrument with pro sounds, enhanced performance features, and battery-powered operation
  • 88-note Ivory Feel-G Keyboard provides weighted-action feel in a lightweight design that’s easy to transport

Nice Instrument: Very Unique Set of Features

Cons

  • A bit difficult to play rapid, repeated notes.

Comments about Roland Juno Ds88 Synthesizer:

I purchased a JUNO-DS88 because I needed an 88 weighted-key instrument that was also very transportable and easy to use for live performance. I haven't bought a Roland keyboard in many years, although I love (and still use) my D50. The DS88 had such a unique set of features, that I thought I would give it a try.

First, it's pretty easy to transport (around 35 pounds). In addition, I am pleased with the capacity for sound generation. Many sounds are lively, really useful, and fun to play. I feel the piano sounds are good for an instrument at this price point that also has so many other features built in. Of course, these piano patches are no are no match for my Ivory II American Grand software, but why should they at this price?

What makes this keyboard unique is the addition of a microphone preamp system with effects so you can run a microphone right into the keyboard. There is also a very nice section on the left side of the keyboard that permits very easy control of the parameters you most want to adjust on the fly (reverb, attack, release, etc.). This section also has a set of sliders that make it fast and easy to control blends of upper and lower tones for splits, dual overlays, etc. I also really love the "joystick" controller for pitch bend and modulation. I had this controller on my D50 and have been missing it ever since. The DS88 also runs fine on batteries.

The keyboard response is adjustable cross a number of parameters that can be changed quickly if needed. That said, the response is certainly not what I have on my Kurzweil. While I recognize that I would love the responsiveness of the Kurzweil, I recognize that that keyboard costs four times as much. I do find that it is a bit of a challenge (for me at least) to play rapidly repeated notes. In general, though, I can express myself well with this instrument.

I'd check out the DS88 because, to my knowledge, it is the only instrument with this level of di

Comments about Roland Juno Ds88 Synthesizer:

Drawing from Roland's advanced SuperNATURAL engine and the Juno lineage, Roland has created a faithful modern stage synth. With controls that are more minimalist in nature than generations previous, users can focus on performance and get to playing quickly. 8 drum pads allow for sequencing and loops to use as a tool during production or on stage. The sounds are so real that it almost seems unreal with the quality of sound at this price point. Piano players will appreciate the hammer action of the keys.

Comments about Roland Juno Ds88 Synthesizer:

Roland's new Juno is a great keyboard and a solid value. The key bed feel great and the keys are responsive. The sounds are rich and full, some of the best piano and synth sounds out there. The DS is a great board for stage or the studio.

The keyboard/synth player in my cover band uses this model, and loves it! I've borrowed it several times for my amateur recording projects, mainly using it for horn section samples. You can't go wrong with a Juno for an all-around synth!

Comments about Roland Juno Ds88 Synthesizer:

The Juno series has been a staple of Roland pianos for years and this generations Juno DS is a great one to get. Compared to previous models this generations model is stripped down which allows for amazing sound and tone without having a crazy learning curve. The 8 drum pads allow for sequencing and abilities to great loops while you accompany it with over 1000 different sounds. The 88 key model has a progressive hammer action feel to the keys which is great for the piano sounds in it.

This keyboard is awesome!!! Not only do the keys have a great feel with touch sensitivity being a HUGE factor, but there's also a way to monitor how hard you're touching the keys on the beatpads, which is a feature I love! This keyboard uses all the most advanced features to date including cueing up triggers in an instant as well as the 8 track sequencer. This unit is extremely versatile, use it as an arrangment workstation, live keyboard (switching patches is extremely easy), or in studio synth. If you're thinking about it, DO IT!!
