Description

Inspired by the classic '70s Les Paul Artisan, the Epiphone Lee Malia Signature Les Paul Custom features a totally unique pickup combo of a Gibson P-94 in the rhythm position and a Gibson 84T-LMTM humbucker with coil tapping in the bridge position.

Lee Malia is the lead guitarist for Bring Me The Horizon, the hard rocking British quintet that’s breaking new ground with their pioneering combination of metal and electronica.  With the release of their latest album Sempiternal and a sold out U.S. tour, Bring Me the Horizon is quickly becoming one of the most talked about bands of the decade. And Lee Malia’s incredible technique and melodic style can be heard on stages around the world on his new Ltd. Ed. Epiphone Signature Les Paul Custom.

"I just wanted to create something that looks really classy," said Malia. "Something that I think appeals to anyone who plays any genre of music. Anyone could pick up this guitar and not necessarily know that I play in a metal band."

A Classic Remade for the 21st Century: The Lee Malia Les Paul Custom was inspired by the Les Paul Artisan, a now-rare 70s classic. The Lee Malia Les Paul Custom features a Walnut Gloss finish with a Maple top and a Mahogany body cut to the same dimensions of all classic Les Pauls.  The body has 7-layer binding on the front and back in Ivory and Black. The black pickguard has 3-layer black and white binding.

Malia choose the Mahogany neck, which has a 1959 Rounded C-Profile shape with a 12" radius and a 24.75" scale. The Rosewood fingerboard has a 70s era "Artisan" floral pattern in pearloid with a single layer of Ivory binding. The Ivory nut is made from artificial bone material and has a standard 1.68" width. The "clipped ear" headstock is also familiar to all Les Paul fans and has the classic Epiphone scroll logo in pearloid with 5-layer binding in Ivory and Black. The headstock also has the vintage style Artisan floral pattern inlaid in pearloid with a black "bell" shaped truss rod cover in black and white with Les Paul Ltd. Ed. Custom in white.  Lee Malia's signature is on the back of the headstock along with the Epiphone Limited Edition logo.

Gibson USA Pickups: For his signature Les Paul, Lee Malia choose a unique combination of Gibson pickups.  The neck pickup features a Gibson USA P-94 single coil pickup (also a favorite of Mr. Les Paul himself). The bridge pickup features a hot-wound Gibson USA 84T-LMTM humbucker, which breaks up easily with any amp.  The humbucker also features coil-tapping, which is activated via the bridge pickup’s push/pull volume control. Both pickups are controlled by a standard 3-way all-metal Epiphone white toggle switch with Black Tophat controls with metal inserts and volume and tone for each pickup.

"With the pickup configuration, you can pretty much do anything," said Malia.  "With coil-tapping you can get the sound of any guitar you can imagine. It's really good if you're writing a clean section, too. You can also get a nice tone straight into a computer. You don't have to use an amp mod to get it to sound good. It's just a really nice guitar. I’m so proud of it."

Classic Gold Epiphone Hardware: The limited edition Lee Malia Signature Les Paul Custom comes with Epiphone's world renowned hardware including a gold LockTone Tune-o-matic bridge and gold Stopbar tailpiece. Other hardware features include Epiphone’s exclusive non-rotating heavy duty output jack, straplocks, and gold premium die-cast machine heads with metal "tulip" buttons with a 14:1 tuning ratio. The Epiphone Ltd. Ed. Lee Malia Signature Les Paul Custom comes with Epiphone’s Limited Lifetime Guarantee and Gibson 365/24/7 Custom Service. Case not included.

THis Les Paul should cost a lot more

By

This Les Paul should really cost a lot more, if you compare it to many that cost more. By far, the best Epiphone I've had/have. But, it really fights way out of it's 'weight class'.

The P94 needs to be adjusted to hit it's sweet spot. But once it is, it is glorious as a clean neck for blues, jazz, well any clean or light crunch tones.

The 84T-LM Bridge though is a monster. THis is a modofed version of an older Gibson model, the 84T, and it is one of the best bridge humbuckers I have tried. It has PAF articulation with P90 growl and sizzle, and it will drive any amp, but also clean up nicely. Split, it works fantastic in a middle selection with the P94, and still pumps out PAF level output.

Really is one of my best sounding guitars of 15, covering Gibsons, Schecters, Epiphones, DBZ Diamonds, with TV Jones, Seymour Duncan, Gibson and custom wound pickups. Bridge in full humbuggy on a driven Vintage Marshall Crunch is a heavenly, organic sound with levels of harmonics.

I don't really do the heavier, current metal, but this guitar can hang in those areas of dropped tuning and chugga chugga.

And, to me, it is simply gorgeous..They say the inlays are pearloid. But they change color with angle, look and feel just like real MOP. If it's pearled, it is not your father's pearloid.

Frets were finished perfectly. For any guitar that's good. But, if you know epiphones, you know how rare that is. I'm able to get a medium low to low action, like I like, with no issues.

IF I had gotten this as my first Les Paul, I might never have gotten the 5 others. It's that good.

Home run, ney Grand SLam Epiphone.

I purchased this from the SamAsh.com web site, it arrived on time and in pristine condition. It's nicer in person, but it does look exactly as pictured in the photos so I'm very happy with the appearance. Normally I'm not a "gold" guy, so I just think of the appointments as "polished brass" and it's all good. My current favorite pickup is the bridge in single-coil. The tonal range of this guitar is outstanding. And the build quality is excellent. If you're within about 6 inches you can spot some minor build issues, nothing worth mentioning. This guitar proudly takes the crown amongst the dozen or so electric guitars in my collection.

I currently own a Gibson LP Studio, and previously owned a 1980 Gibson LP Standard. so I do have a pretty good frame of reference when judging this style of guitar.

If folks have a reservation about the Lee Malia signature, the good news is it's both on the BACK of the headstock and totally illegible. So just don't bring it up, call it a LP Artisan Tribute with a wink and a smile.

At this price, it's a beautiful instrument I can play "hard" without worrying about the resale value.
