Comments about Ibanez RG655 Prestige Series Electric Guitar:
I've had the Ibanez RG 655 for about 3 weeks now. For most of my adult playing life I have been a vintage guitar fan. I love and own Gibson's, Fenders, A Warmoth Tele that I built 15 years ago and still love. I've had countless guitars over the years of almost any name brand including Ibanez. Out of all the guitars I've owned only two had floating bridges. I could never keep them in tune like a hard tail vintage guitar. Recently I had been searching for a metal guitar. Something that I could shred on, or at least learn to shred on (since I'm more or less a blues player). I ran across this guitar on a web site and thought, "hey this could be the one". I knew I wanted quality (no cheap stuff). Next I looked up videos on youtube and got an idea of the sound. It seemed to be just what I was looking for. The next step was to purchase. I checked all the music stores within a 200 mile radius and nobody had this guitar. I was bummed. I finally checked Samash.com and they had only 1 left in Cobalt Metallic (what I was looking for). I had it overnighted to me and it arrived on time. Now for the pros and cons
This guitar actually came to me on an airplane from Florida to Indiana, and into Charlotte NC and when I tuned it only a couple of strings were slightly off with the Peterson Strobe Tuner. That blew me away. I thought for sure I had found a Gem tuning wise (more on that later). The finish was flawless as well as the frets and fret ends (no jagged edges) smooth like butter. The Dimarzio pickups sound great. I love the single coil sound also.
The action was a bit high for my tastes. I had to adjust and with my little experience with a floating bridge ran into many tuning hassles. Youtube to the rescue. I made a tool to keep that bridge in a level position while stringing and that was the trick. Now I have a guitar that plays well and stays in tune. I may have found my favorite guitar. That is saying a lot coming from a vintage guitar guy.
