Description

Exclusively available at Sam Ash, this Gibson SG Standard 2017 T comes dressed in an Alpine White finish!

When the double-cutaway SG was unveiled as the (temporary) replacement for the original single-cutaway Les Paul in 1961 it quickly proved itself far more than just a stand-in. An overnight success, this innovative guitar quickly became a favorite with rock, blues, and jazz players and more.

The Gibson SG Standard 2017 T features iconic a symmetrical double-horned body styling and smaller 'teardrop' pickguard that harken back to the originals of the early ’60s, and the Classic ’57 and ’57 + humbuckers likewise take you straight back to those hallowed PAF tones. When uncompromising performance matters, locking Grover kidney-button tuners, a slim taper neck, rosewood fingerboard with rolled binding, and our finest modern aluminum Tune-O-Matic bridge and stop bar tailpiece with elegant chrome plating provide a sylish and modern SG playing experience.

The SG Standard 2017 T includes a classic Gibson hardshell case with a Gibson multi-tool, a premium leather strap, and a polishing cloth. Comes dressed in a Sam Ash Exclusive Alpine White finish.

I have had a Sam Ash Exclusive Les Paul Traditional 1960 for a while now. When I was looking to purchase this guitar, I was also looking at other models, such as the Gibson SG. However, I found that I am not a fan of the 490 and 498 pickups that Gibson included in these guitars. Since then, the quality of SGs has gone down, in my opinion. Between when I purchased my Les Paul and now, Gibson suffered through the horrible 2014-2015 models, and came out of those years with some SGs that were better than what they had previously had been producing. However, these came at a loss of a hardshell case and still featured the pickups that I did not like. Alas, the 2017 models have finally given me an SG that features everything I wanted. I chose to purchase another Sam Ash Exclusive to match my Les Paul. The Alpine Finish with the white binding on this guitar is stunning. Locking tuners makes restrings a breeze, while also helping with the infamous Gibson G string. I was worried that they guitar would neck dive as SGs often do, but the guitar is so well balanced. The 2017 Gibson SGs feature the Gibson 57 Classic humbucker in the neck position, and the 57 Classic Plus in the bridge position, which is my favorite set of Gibson humbuckers. This guitar barks like a Rottweiler. Compared to my Les Paul with the same pickups, the SG produces a much more aggressive tone while retaining the characteristic thickness of a humbucker. Another nice (and returning feature) is the hardshell case that came back for the 2017 SG models. Upon first opening the case, you find a nice fingerboard shield under the strings brandishing the Gibson signature slogan "Only a Gibson is Good" Gibson also is including a Gibson brand tool to make adjustments on your instrument with , and a photo of your instrument from the shop. They include a leather strap, but I do not see myself using it. One downfall of the 2017 SGs is the downfall of most Gibson products, the PCB wiring harness.

    Amazing all around balanced guitar

    By

    from San Diego, CA

Guitar was perfect out of the box. I changed the strings to 9 gauge since I like extra slinky strings. Finish was amazing frets were polished and smooth. Really liked the dark rosewood fretboard. Wasn't sure how I would like the 57 pickups but much to my surprise they are the best sounding pickups I ever heard...maybe it's the SG. I like 490 and 498 combo on my Les Paul Supreme. Usually SGs are neck heavy but this guitar was perfectly balanced. I wanted a SG HP Standard but they only had a 2016 model but the neck did a nose dive when you play standing up. Also the auto tuners still had issues at least on the 2016 model I played. I really wanted the SG HP model but they only had the 2016 model. I have to play a guitar before I buy it. I can't be more excited about this guitar. Coil taps and the adjustable nutt would make this perfect or a SG HP model without the G-force tuners. Guitar came with a nice strap, guitar tool, polishing cloth and a picture of the guitar at the Gibon factory Nice classy touch!
