Description

For decades, Birch drums were the preferred choice among studio drummers all over the world. But Tama recognized that blending Birch's cracking attack and crystal clarity with the dark, rumbling of lows of Bubinga would create a fuller and fatter sound.

The mastery of this combination is Starclassic Performer B/B.  It’s no surprise that this series is played night after night by most of the drum maker’s artist roster.  Offering unparalleled richness and range, it has become the first choice of drummers who want a kit unlike anything else on the market today.

The Starclassic Performer B/B line now includes Quick-Lock tom brackets and floor tom brackets.  Originally developed for the company’s flagship STAR series, they offer lightning fast, locked-in set-ups and completely eliminate metal-to-metal contact.  Combined with precision-cut bearing edges, die-cast hoops, the Star-Cast mounting system, and other innovative appointments, these upgrades help make the new Starclassic drums ideal for players in search of a truly professional instrument.

This kit includes:
  • 18x22" Bass Drum
  • 8x10" Tom Tom
  • 9x12" Tom Tom
  • 14x16" Floor Tom

Snare Drum not included.

Get your Tama Starclassic Performer B/B 4-Piece Shell Kit (Lacquer Ocean Blue Ripple) today at the guaranteed lowest price from Sam Ash Direct with our 45-day return and 60-day price protection policy.

The Sweetest Sound You'll Ever Need!

First up, I bought this kit with help from Heather Enis with Sam Ash. What a positive customer experience she made with this purchase for me! Heather had right price, a special order snare, and was up front about the wait time and kept me up to date on the status. So right off the bat, Sam Ash has my business!

Pros for the Tama Starclassic Performer B/B kit: The Lacquer Ocean Ripple finish is perfect eye candy! If nothing else, these babies look GREAT!! But, that's not all…the sound is SWEET! It pains me to say that these B/B drums have surpassed the sound of my 1984 Tama Superstar Mahogany kit (which I could NEVER part with). The kit comes with Evans G2 heads, but except for the snare, I replace the toms with Evans Reso 7s (my first try with these). Awesome sound, and that is in a bedroom!

I like that the bass drum legs do not enter the drum, and they swivel to many different positions. A little harder to work with then the standard slide legs, but I like this much more for the end result, especially for packing up to move on.

The snare had to be special ordered and was worth. It cuts through like butter, and visually it's such an appealing unit.

Finally, this kit was packed well, so if you order new, rest assured, you get some TLC for this set.

Cons: I'm not a big fan of the memory lock system for the tom mount and the floor tom legs. The concept is out of this world and I love the idea that part of the mount on the tom stays behind on the shaft. However, the toms and the floor tom itself have a very wobbly appearance and it is very difficult to get the toms to position as they have about a good ½" of movement when you release after tightening all the settings. I haven't noticed it being a distraction when playing, so that good, but I'd go for some older memory lock styles that Tama used in the 80s. And that's all I have had an issue with.

Overall, I give the kit a true A+. Tama hits a home run here!
