I wanted to write a review on this telecaster because I put in a fair amount of work and testing of other telecasters before purchasing. I own a 52 reissue, which is a fantastic guitar and the only guitar you'll ever need... except if you are constantly tuning down and back up again, in which case, you naturally want another tele! So I played several. I tried out elites, other single coil versions, did my online research, etc. This update on the '72 deluxe was the hands down winner. Extremely easy bending, probably because of the more modern fret profile (remember, I play a 52, which has a huge neck with small frets). The neck shape was also great for me even though not as chunky as I am used to playing. But I really have to call out the Shawbuckers here. This guy must be a genius, and I'm sure Leo would be proud. The two humbuckers are just absolutely incredible. Just little tweaks to the volume pots (particularly in the middle position) and huge spectrums of sound come soaring out. It's like you'll never get the same sounds twice, in a good way. Because you just don't want to put this thing down, it keeps pumping our all kinds of different sounds. With my 52 tele, I'm almost always at a volume of around 7-10 and tone around 6-8, and maybe I'll fuss around a little here or there (maybe more one day if I practice enough, Roy). But on this deluxe, I'm just having a GREAT time dialing different sounds like crazy, tons of fun. If you are a single coil player, trust me, this tele somehow gives you a tele, that sounds like a tele, but has humbuckers that do what humbuckers should do...but is still most definitely a tele. Great job! Special thanks to Sam Ash in Manhattan, great inventory, great service.
