Even the starting line from EV, the ZLX series, beats most top models from other brands. The EV ZLX's have great sound with crisp highs and solid lows. The 12" makes a perfect floor monitor with its compact size and clear sound, or as your main speakers when paired with a subwoofer. Overall a great buy!
I use two ZLX-12p speakers on poles for gigs with a solo guitar and vocals. Even outdoors, where sound evaporates into the air, these speakers have enough punch to fill an acre and a cover a crowd of 300 with exceptional clarity. They easily handle indoor performances. I do a lot of finger-picking, and these speakers are perfectly balanced to pick up every note. They also cover vocals with astonishing clarity, which is critical for a solo act. The audience will hear every word, and the speaker clarity highlights every intonation you put into your vocals. These speakers give you more control as performer. Other musicians have approached me following a show and asked me how I get my PA sound so crisp and clean. Use high quality gold cables to eliminate minor hiss and deliver a strong line signal (obscenely expensive for cables, but worth it). I also use a mixer for EQ adjustment, compression, and a very small touch of reverb. If you perform a lot, I'd also recommend getting the speaker covers. While the plastic cabinets are relatively light and easy to transport and lift onto the poles, they scuff easily. To keep them looking nice, invest in the covers. Most speakers sound pretty good at low volumes in a small room, making comparisons nearly impossible. So kudos to Sam Ash, where I could compare speakers from 100 feet away (where your audience will be).
I own a number of these powered speakers and needed a few more for larger outdoor gigs. Found them here on Sam Ash for the best price available anywhere. Superior service and ultra-fast shipping. Although they were listed as "used in new condition" they looked brand new. Very happy (as usual) with my purchase from Sam Ash. I couldn't ask for anything better.
I bought this PA speaker for use as a keyboard speaker, and it works great. It was priced very well.

After doing a lot of shopping around looking at Mackie, QSC, and JBL products as potential alternatives, I kept coming back to these because they had the best combination of sound quality and features at a reasonable price. I use them for mobile DJ/events where I don't need insane sound pressure, so for my purposes the bass is adequate and how I like it - relatively tight. I pair this with a Serato/Pioneer DDJ SR set-up and the sound quality is great. I also use them at home for music listening and karaoke nights. My music collection is pretty diverse, and so far everything from Philip Glass to the Freelance Whales to RJD2 sounds solid on them at volume. But if you need high levels of sound pressure and play a lot of EDM, then you will probably want a sub. When I was on the fence about the purchase, I noticed that a very talented local Jazz combo was using them for live performances where they were delivering great clarity and tonal characteristics on all of the instruments. While that wasn't my personal use, it sealed the deal. While I have been impressed with the sound quality and output of QSC products, these give you nearly all of the bang for half the buck.
You can use this as a floor monitor or loudspeaker on a pole. There is a digital equalizer where you can choose how you are using the speaker and the frequency is optimal as a monitor or loudspeaker. Multiple inputs are awesome. You can even hook up your phone through a separate 3.5" input to play music. There are 2 main inputs that you can plug in 1/4" or xlr cables, very cool. I plug my mic directly in the input and sing; no mixer needed if you don't have or want to use. Love the clear sound and dsp features.
The speakers are so light weight and easy to carry around so don't fret about getting many of these and keeping them in storage and hauling them from place to place. The sound coming out of these things are amazing. I primarily use these as floor monitors and use them as Main Speakers when we have smaller events/shows with my band/DJ uses. Yes, the bass response isn't all that great but that's to be expected with something this compact, you can easily upgrade to the 15" if you want some more boom, which I have done using 2 15" speakers and anywhere from none to three 12" speakers for monitors. Sam Ash handled shipping and customer service with these products very well. 5 stars for value, ease of use, performance, and long lasting quality, especially in this price range of PA speakers. Well done EV!

These speakers are probably the best, affordable 12-inch speakers that you can get! I have two of these and paired them with two EV Elx 118p and they sound fantastic!
The Pa Guy
These were a big upgrade from some lower end powered house brand powered speakers that I did have in my rehearsal space. They are more articulate and a ton louder than my previous speakers. When I bought these speakers, I had two concerns: 1. These speakers were listed as used/open box. They were only a few bucks cheaper than brand new, but I figured that I'm not all that concerned about a scratch or two. I will put my own on the speakers soon enough. They came in their original packaging and I haven't really seen a scratch on them. 2. At this price point, they wouldn't be a big improvement over my current, low end powered speakers. I'm not audiophile, but it's a night and day difference. Cleaner sounding and way louder, we don't have any problems using these speakers in our rehearsal space to get over our drums and guitars in our loud (probably too loud) rock band. At less than half the cost of the QSC K12 speakers, I don't think it's a fair comparison. For everything else in this price range, I felt like these speakers stood out for me.
