Just like Sam Ash, Gretsch was "born in Brooklyn" when Friedrich Gretsch set up his shop in 1883. They began producing guitars in the 1930s, hitting their stride in the fifties and sixties when they released a series of iconic models including the 6120 Nashville, the Duo Jet and the White Falcon, highly prized and favored by such rockabilly stars as Gene Vincent and Eddie Cochran.
A successful collaboration with Chet Atkins brought forth the Country Gentleman and the Tennessean, which found their way into the hands of many of the British Invasion groups including George Harrison and John Lennon of the Beatles.
Renewed success came in the 1980s during the rockabilly revival and led to lineup of signature models by Brian Setzer of the Stray Cats. Today the revised Electromatic lineup has proven popular with guitarists of all styles.>/p>
