“We knew support for every major plug-in format had to be great where it counted – the sound”, says McDSP founder Colin McDowell.
McDSP plug-ins can be found on popular audio workstations and live sound systems all over the world. Supported platforms include Pro Tools, Logic, Digital Performer, Ableton Live, Reason, VENUE, S3L, and now Cubase, Nuendo and other VST compatible hosts.
In addition to VST plug-in format support, v6 includes a complete upgrade to the entire McDSP product line. New user interface features, faster loading times, and algorithm optimizations across all formats are just some of the improvements in the v6 release. Pro Tools users will appreciate v6 additions such as enhanced support for the Avid S6 and S3 control surfaces. Artist presets from the likes of Dave Pensado, Kevin Churko, Joe Barresi, and many others are also included.
The McDSP v6 release also comes with significant sonic improvements. All AU and VST versions of McDSP v6 plug-ins now use the same algorithms previously only found on the Pro Tools AAX DSP and AAX Native versions. The new AU and VST v6 versions, like their AAX counterparts, have a 64-bit audio path for maximum fidelity, realtime control smoothing just like analog gear, and the ability to operate above 0 dB to handle the hottest of mixes without clipping.
AC101 and AC202 use the same control set as the originals, however the attack and release time ranges are modified to prevent excessive distortion. Furthermore, the AC202 algorithm is updated for an improved response with highly transient and harmonic input signals.
CB101, CB202, and CB303 are all updates of the originals, but the makeup gain range is 0 to +48 dB (instead of –24 dB to + 24dB). The secondary release (Release2) control is removed, but the Type 1, Type 2, and Auto time constant circuit modes are the same.
E606, F202, and P606 have completely new user interfaces, but use the same award winning algorithms as the originals, and continue to have unique features like Peak-Slope-Dip shelving EQ parameters. The Next Gen versions also include new adjustments allow for greater EQ gain range (+/- 15 dB instead of +/- 12 dB), more accurate Peak-Slope-Dip response at higher sample rates (88.2 kHz, 96 kHz, and higher), and in some cases, a wider frequency control range (like in the high shelf EQ). Simultaneous metering of input and output levels is now available in all Next Gen FilterBank plug-ins, and the F202 filter configuration has an output gain control in addition to the previously available input gain control.
MC202, MC303, MC404 are all updates of the originals (like CompressorBank), but the makeup gain range is 0 to +48 dB (instead of –24 dB to + 24dB). The secondary release (Release2) control is removed, but the Type 1, Type 2, and Auto time constant circuit modes are the same. The user interface is now knob based to accommodate larger meters in each band. Finally, the input gain control range is increased to +/- 24 dB (from +/- 12 dB).
“The Filter Bank and Compressor Bank plug-ins are very useful, with loads of different options in each one, and Analogue Channel is great for those wanting to recreate that analogue tape sound.” - Sound On Sound
