1968 was a transitional year for Fender amps, with tone that was still pure Fender but a look that was brand new. With a silver-and-turquoise front panel and classy aluminum “drip edge” grille cloth trim, the Princeton Reverb received a fresh new face as it remained the perfect recording and gigging amp. Small, light and moderately powered, it produced big tube tone, with world-class Fender reverb and vibrato effects. For countless guitarists ever since, the Princeton Reverb has been the go-to amp for classic Fender sound.

The ’68 Custom Princeton Reverb Amp pays tribute to the classic look, sound and performance of Fender’s late-’60s “silverface” amps. In a special twist, a modified tone circuit gives modern players greater tonal flexibility with pedals, and the amp’s reduced negative feedback gives greater touch sensitivity and quicker onset of overdrive. The ’68 Custom Princeton Reverb’s single 10” Celestion TEN 30 speaker also delivers a more distinctively rock ‘n’ roll flavor.

Love This Amp

I've always wanted a tube amp to complement my Fender American Strat. This amp is great for my needs, which is playing at home, jamming with others or small gigs. This amp sounds very rich and clean at low levels and hits a fuzzy distortion when set at about 4 or higher. I can also use my Boss distortion pedal to play with distortion at lower volume settings. The reverb and tremelo effects are excellent sounding to my ears. This amp also sounds great with my Budda Bud Wah pedal. This is a great sounding tube amp for anyone who is on a budget.

the dream studio/home amp

My first tube amp and I was amazed by the tone as soon as I plugged my Fender American Special Telecaster. The cleans are what gives this amp the vintage fender vibe. Also, if you have only used digital reverb you got to hear what amazing reverb this has. I would say this is the best bang for the buck tube amp.

Surprised how much I like it.

I'm kinda surprised how much I like this amp. I know that sounds silly, its a Fender amp after all. I have 4 other tube amps, one of which has been my absolute go to amp. And that hasn't changed with the purchase of this 68 Custom Princeton Reverb. But, I would like to say the following. I purchased it because I can't seem to find a external reverb unit that sounds good to me. And I know that Fender amps have nice reverb, this one having tube driven reverb. It has not disappointed me so far. I've never been a fan of tremolo. Honestly, I've never seen the point of that effect. But... Surprisingly, I haven't turned it off since I turned it on. Doesn't matter if its a clean tone or driven, the tremolo still sounds good. This Princeton has a tone that, while completely different from the tone of most current amp offerings, it is very pleasing to the ear. Its very vintage, yet surprisingly timeless. I had it in my head that I wanted a 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb, and I might still get one next year. Because the next one will surely make me Happy. lol But this little amp has filled the gap I was trying to fill, quite nicely. Its plenty loud, it goes from very clean to a very nice drive stage, just by turning the amp up louder. Lastly, this 10" speaker has a surprisingly deep tone to it. It cleans up nicely by turning down the bass and the treble up. But it holds its own, WAY better than I thought I would. Just as an experiment, I disconnected the 10" and hooked up a 12" Red Fang. And while it sounded good, I actually like the 10" Celestion better. I even hooked up a 2x12 (Vintage30 X G12T-75) This pair has a 16ohm load, and did sound quit good, but the Celestion 10 still sounds better. I even added the Red Fang, which creates the needed 8ohm load. It sounds great, as would be expected using such wonderful speakers. But honestly, I still like the 10" Celestion. I don't know, I don't get it.. So... If you are on the fence. I'd say, go for it!

So much Fender goodness in such a great low wattage amplifier. The reverb is absolutely incredible. My friend has an original and this little dude sounds extremely similar. Great amp for a great price. Grab one! *Hands on review by Christopher M. from store 57 in Indianapolis.
