Playing these drums for 8 years

4

I have been playing this exact same drum kit for 8 years. From when I started as a complete Noob to now playing drums professionally. I agree other people that this kit is great for beginners. I will say it is possible to make this cheap kit sound amazing. Cobus's video: "How to make your cheap drum set sound amazing" is a great example. I've used muffling rings and tape to take away overtones and unnecessary sounds. But if you replace the stock heads with new heads. The drum kit sounds even better. I've destroy the stock heads after 2 years of having them. If your cheap like me but want to pursue your passion with drums. This drum kit is a good start. Maybe later if you want, get a better drum kit. If you feel ashamed saying you play a groove percussion drum and not Tama or Pearl, go for it. I have no shame. This drum set allowed me to play at some amazing places.

With so many on offer these days, it is great to have a name you can recognise. The Groove Percussion DK120WRB 5 Piece Drum Set with Cymbals and Hardware is certainly that and will be a superb purchase. This 5-piece drumkit is a great value offering sound quality and construction of kits costing much more! Features include: 16" x 22" bass drum, 12" and 13" ride toms, a 16" x 16" floor tom, 5.5" x 14" snare, double braced hardware, custom spurs and new, modern-style lugs. Two 14" hi-hat cymbals and one 16" crash/ride cymbal are included!

BEGINNERS HERES YOUR DRUM KIT

THIS KIT IS FOR ANYONE WHO IS JUST STARTING OUT OR WANTS TO LEARN THE DRUMS. THE SHELLS ITSELF ARE OK THE HARDWARE IS OK, THE CYMBALS ARE OK IF THE PERSON PLAYING THEM IS 10YRS OLD OR YOUNGER. YOU CAN GET DECENT CYMBALS FOR $100 AT SAM ASH. OVERALL IF YOU PUT GOOD HEADS ON THIS KIT AND TUNE THEM THE RIGHT WAY THEY WILL SOUND PRETTY GOOD, WHATS NOT SO GREAT ARE THE COLOR CHOICE, I THINK IT ONLY COMES IN BLACK.I AM A REVIEWER AT SAM ASH LAS VEGAS, JASON L

Upgraded Groove Percussion Kit

The GDK160 is a large step up from the GDK120. The 160 version has much better cymbals, a steel snare drum, nicer chrome hardware, and it comes with a throne. For $100 more, this kit is worlds better than its counterpart the GDK120. I would suggest that anyone looking for a beginner set purchase this one. The major benefits of this kit are it comes with a throne (which will cost you about $50 otherwise), the cymbal stands, snare stand and bass drum pedal are much sturdier than from the GDK120 and will not need to be replaced as quickly, and the cymbals, while still beginner cymbals, sound decent. Solid entry level kit

This was my first kit, bought used and then used myself for about four years. I now play a Tama Silverstar. While the groove percussion doesn't offer anything special in terms of tone, with a change in heads and proper tuning it's possible to get a good sound out of it (I personally like clear Remo Ambassadors). The cymbals are admittedly pretty bad but for a beginner looking to get the fundamentals on a cheap and durable kit, this is a good choice.

surely worth the money!

This was my first drum set and I bought it back in 2005 at my local samash. Since then I have gone through a pearl export and now pearl visions birch. In my opinion, the shells of this groove percussion sound just as good as the other sets i've played on, either at home or at samash. All you should really do is just change the drum heads and tune them to preference(which goes for any drumset) and you've got yourself some good shells. Black drum wrap stay on nicely as well. If you're an absolute beginner, you should change your cymbals after about a year of use since they are of very poor quality but keep in mind you've still got yourself some hardware. My hi-hat and crash stand only started having problems about 3 years after initial purchase. I cant really remember much about the snare but I suggest changing the heads and later changing the snare wires. I could easily have continued playing with this set without any problems as long as I would slap on an aquarian bass head, remo emperors or pinstripes, and a handful of sabian b8's with different hardware to replace the stock cymbals and a wooden snare for sound preference. As a personal preference, I'd like to see this with slghtly smaller rack toms to add a bit more color to the set. Speaking of which, this set could really use a few different color options. Creamy white would be beautiful. This is an affordable set that's surely worth the shells it comes with. I recommend this set to beginners and anyone who can bother simply changing heads/cymbals.

great value

I bought this set because it was ready to play right out of the box! I have since upgraded the cymbals to zildjians, and all the stands---snare, cymbal, hi-hat, and throne---to pacific. I also put remo black suede emperor head on the snare---matched with a remo hazy snare side and gibralter wires, black suede emperors on all three toms, and a black suede powerstroke 3 on the kick, matched with a remo flame graphic reso head with a 6 inch kickport. The beauty of it is that I was able to play them as I slowly upgraded over several months, and didn't have to dish out all the money at the same time! I now have a great sounding and looking kit that is built the way I wanted it, and at a much lower cost than a big name setup!

Good beginner kit

The kit itself is alright. The cymbals are trash, you'll need to get new ones if you plan to use this kit for anything. The drum heads are decent, but I would recommend changing those too. The real treasures of this kit are the bass pedal and snare. The pedal is very responsive and the snare has a great tone to it. The kit overall is a good practice kit for the price (considering it comes with cymbals and everything).

GOOD STARTER KIT FOR BEGINERS

2

THIS IS A GOOD STARTER KIT FOR BEGINERS IF YOU ARE THINKIN OF BUYING THIS KIT BUT YOUR HEAVY HITER OR PLAY LIKE A HARCORE ROCKER U MAY WANT TO CHANGE ALL OF THE DRUM HEADS AN CYMBALS. THE MAIN ONE YOU SHOULD CHANGE IS THE DRUMS HEADS BECAUSE THE SKIN IS NOT MENT FOR HEAVY HITING THEY WOULD BREAK VERY EASILY ESPECIALLY THE SNARE DRUM HEAD BECAUSE IT DOESN'T HAVE POWERSTROKE SO IT WOULD BRAKE
