The Mark VI saxophone, whose production ceased for alto and tenor in 1974, and entirely for all other pitches by the 1980’s, is still to this day the benchmark that other designs are held against. Its comfortable ergonomics have seen its way into nearly every saxophone produced by all major manufacturers, and it’s flexibility in tone has secured its place among many players as being the finest saxophone ever produced.
We are proud to offer for sale a beautiful American assembled silver plated Mark VI tenor saxophone, serial number 1631XX, dating to early 1969. American assembled saxophones distinguish themselves from their American assembled brothers by their unique engraving style, and serial number stamped on the neck; this was done all for horns destined for American assembly, so that all of the original parts of the instrument could be assembled in the US factory.
The entire range of this horn speaks effortlessly with a bright, slightly spread sound that screams when you push it. The horn has been recently overhauled and is outfitted with plastic domed resonators and the pads have plenty of life. The horn has been re-plated, as the plating is over the engraving of the horn. American assembled horns that were plated at the factory were plated first, and then the engraving was cut through the plating. The engraving is still crisp and visible, indicating that the horn was not overly buffed when striped for plating, meaning that the tone holes were not compromised from this process. The horn has noticeable damage, and the plating is in excellent condition, with some minor wear and scratches associated with years of play
This horn comes with the original elephant grey tri-pack case and a long shank Larry Teal Selmer Paris hard rubber mouthpiece, and may very well be the last tenor you will need to own, so don’t delay in picking up this beauty.
