Regardless of whether you’re playing on stage, practicing for a recital, accompanying the church choir or studying in the classroom, the new Kawai ES8 is portable piano perfection.

Stellar Tone!
The ES8 features Kawai’s exclusive Harmonic Imaging XL with 88-key piano sampling. This unique technology creates sounds with the highest level of detail and clarity possible. Each key of a piano has its own unique tonal characteristics. Some have only one string, others two and still others three, for instance. There are also differences in hammer felt shape and density.

These and other factors create subtle differences in tone from one note to the next. By sampling and recreating each key individually (rather than “stretching” a smaller number of samples) the unique tonal character of each note is preserved. Kawai’s Progressive Harmonic Imaging (PHI) with 88-key sampling uses a larger tonal “database” than regular Harmonic Imaging to provide greater tonal details throughout the dynamic range. Ultra Progressive Harmonic Imaging (UPHI) with 88-key sampling uses our largest tonal database, thus providing the greatest tonal detail possible.

Stellar Touch!
The new class-leading Responsive Hammer III keyboard action on the ES8 re-creates the exceptional touch of an acoustic grand piano with its realistic movement and rigid “springless” design working together to provide a smooth, natural piano playing experience. A triple-sensor key detection system enhances responsiveness and accuracy.

Virtual Technician
A skilled piano technician can personalize an acoustic piano’s sound and touch response. Kawai’s exclusive Virtual Technician does the same for the ES8 digital piano.

Built-In Recorder
The ES8 offers an easy to use 10-Song / 2-Track built-in Recorder ideal for self-evaluation or capturing a moment of inspiration.

Above I selected both realistic sound and unrealistic sound. Unrealistic only applies to the rhythms. For a keyboard at this price they are a disappointment. However the rest of the instrument, voice sounds, action, customization, and overall quality are worth every penny. I just sold a Yamaha DGX660 and I loved it for what it was, a "do everything' instrument." My biggest positive impression here is kind of the opposite, how thoroughly thought out the features it does have were. This keyboard is not trying to be "everything" it just trying to be really good at what it is. AND IT ABSOLUTELY SUCCEEDS AT THAT. Sound, action, and keyboard quality are excellent. Built quality is excellent. Everything about the keyboard says just quality. It's up there in the price, but in my opinion nothing from any of the other major manufacturers comes close to this for the same money. (and I did research on everything close to this price range) The speakers alone are good quality but personally I wish they had a little more volume. Just my opinion. (and yes, my hearing is fine.) Hook up a good pair of studio monitors and listen to what you hear; you won't be disappointed.

This is an amazing DP, Hopefully ES8markii will add sounds.

This is my second DP, first was Casio PX560 which is great but keybed is too noisy when practicing at night and don't want to make noise. The few sounds on this Kawai are very solid and just sound great without making any adjustments. I'm very happy with my purchase and It will most likely last me a very long time since the built quality is great. everything about this piano just feels right, I would only complain about not having more sounds and may adding the new Piano sounds as MP7SE :) I like that this one has built in speakers and they sound great.

My daughter and I are learning piano; and I wanted to get the best possible action and sound in a portable package(so moving wouldn't be so bad and it won't take up too much space.) I took a chance on Sam Ash direct on eBay and found a Kawai ES8 for 1300ish. Maybe the piano is overkill for lessons, but the price made it a great deal as far as sound and action.
