Bringing back a classic design, this StingRay is as great sounding and playable as ever. Featuring old-school design, with modern appointments, and an alnico humbucker for killer bass sound, this instrument is great for anyone looking for a quality bass.

Old-School Design
Modeled after the classic StingRay design, this bass has a vintage flare that looks great. With awesome quilted maple veneer top on a mahogany body, this bass has a large, low-end tone. The double cutaway design is contoured for the utmost comfort. The neck is a roasted hard maple and holds a 34" scale length. The fingerboard is a 9.5" radius roasted hard maple.

Modernized Appointments
Upgraded for today's player, this bass doesn't disappoint. The body showcases a really unique pickguard. The bridge is Sterling by Music Man designed, modeled after the original on the Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay. The open gear tuners have a vintage look, but they've got modern functionality.

Alnico Humbucker
Rich with low-end tone, this bass has a Sterling by Music Man designed alnico humbucker pickup at the bridge. Coupled with the 3-band active preamp, this great sounding instrument can cover a range of styles.

Straight out of the box this bass looks, sounds and plays great! I would highly recommend it for anyone looking for a quality instrument. The active electronics are very versatile, especially if you like jazz, rock or funk; and if you're looking for that famous Flea 'growl' this bass nails it. I don't think that this bass is well suited for country or blues - leave that to the P and J basses. But there are a few small caveats. 1- I noticed right away that it doesn't have an active bypass switch, which means that if you're playing out live and the battery goes out (and pray that it's not in the middle of a song) you're out of luck. You'll need a backup instrument or at the very least a spare battery on hand. 2- The pickup had a clanking noise. Like a lot of players, I like to rest my thumb on it while playing with my fingers. I opened it up and sure enough, there wasn't a lot of padding beneath it. I had some extra lying around, popped it in and problem solved. It was a 10 minute fix. Not an issue if you're a bass nerd like me who likes to set up and repair their own instruments. Otherwise you're going to be paying someone to do it for you, which is something you shouldn't be dealing with when buying brand new. 3- I noticed that the D string tuner was grinding a tad bit. I removed and disassembled it, applied some Teflon lube it the right places and voila - problem solved. But again, 'nerd', so if you're not like me, you're going to pay someone else. Granted, no brand, spanking new instrument is going to be perfect when you buy it but for $799 I would expect just a little more quality control and you should not have to deal with these 'small' issues from the get-go. In their defense, I'm sure Sam Ash and/or MusicMan would make good on these but then there is the sending back and waiting. On the upside, it comes with a very high quality gig bag; although this bass DESERVES a hard case. If it weren't for these small issues it would easily get 5 STARS!

Awesome Bass for the Price

This is my second Ray 34. I preform live and do records so a good bass that sounds great and holds tuning is key. This meets every requirement I need. The tone is spot on for the Hard Rock I play. Sounds great in Pro Tools with no added effects other than a simple EQ. The finish looks great. I would definitely say if you want a Stingray bass and can not afford one get a Ray 34. I have had no problems or complaints with them.
