This is a great guiutar

It t's a great guitar it stays in tune and it has a very good even sound on all the strings. it's due to the adjustable pole pieces which aren't on all jazzmasters . The finish is deep and even the pickups match the finish ...it's kind of a white cream color and it matches the pickup selector too. The only think that's not perfect is the selector switch is a little stiff when switching may try some contact spray could do the trick! other than that I like the frets being jumbo and the neck radius is nice a tighter radius than my Squire Strat (more curved) whammy works great stays in tune like it's supposed to. The string spacing is a little wider at the nut than my Strat. (which I like) The neck is a nice C shape and a little chunkier than my Squire Strat ( it's MIC also) and it's a great guitar also. I've had it for five years and it's always a joy to play that's why I wanted the Jazzmaster. This is not a Strat sounding guitar it's more Tele sounding I bought it because I liked the jazz vibe when you switch to the other electronics. but you can get a jazz sound weather you use the switching or not by the tone control. Don't know what real Jazzmaster pickups sound like but these J. Macis P-90s are warmer and fuller than the Gibson type P-90's on my Epi Casino.

J Mascis Jazzmaster Is Great

5

The J Mascis Jazzmaster is a great and beautiful guitar. It plays and sounds just like the Jazzmaster that I had in the early 60's, that was ruined in a flood. Don't believe it when you hear that the J Mascis pickups are "dark" sounding. Get another amp. The only difference that I can see is, that this Jazzmaster doesn't have the tremolo lock that I thought was useless anyway. Keep in mind that the tremolo bar needs to be pressed all of the way down into the sleeve or it will rattle like a Stratocaster. This tremolo is very smooth and responsive. The slide button for playing rhythm works fine and the sound of the alternate circuit is just right for laying back. I did change the strings to Ernie Ball Hybrid 9-46 and did some personal setup changing. Just my preference. The supplied 10-46 strings are OK though. The guitar will be a great choice for any style of music.

Its all in the Neck

Was jealous when my friend got the first Mascis signature model (purple).... But this guitar plays just as well and the neck is more comfortable. Everything you want and expect from a Jazzmaster but the neck (what you use the most on a guitar) is top knotch. It feels like a 60's fender neck, more thick than the "Modern C" is a classic profile. Bang for buck the only better buy at sam ash is the super champ x2 and that is a whole different category. I own american fenders but squire has been putting out awesome instruments these past 2 years and saving me money. I just saw Dinosaur Jr. last night and J. had one on stage but didn't play it.....his loss. I talked to Murph (Drummer) after the show and he said he prefers this new squire signature model over the fender purple model. Don't miss out!
